I got an email the other day from a young person from India who wanted help in choosing a beginner acoustic guitar.
Wanting to help, I looked online for Indian music stores that sell guitars.
What a shock! There are more Sitars for sale in N.A than guitars in India. I thought guitars were popular everywhere.
Almost all the guitars that I did find where low quality too!
I even went to ebay.in(India's ebay)and I only found 35 listings for guitars ... there are 1500 listings on ebay.com for sitars and we have about a quarter the population of India!
How many sitar players do you know?
I hope this person(I don't know if it was a boy or girl, I never heard the name before) will be able to find people to jam with! I hope so.
I just can't imagine what I would be missing in my life if I didn't play guitar.
So, to all fellow North American (and European) guitar players ... be thankful, we're blessed with the greatest selection of guitars anywhere in the world!
The youngster ended up buying a Yamaha beginner classical guitar. Who knows, maybe a whole new style of music will emerge in a few years from the merging of our musical cultures.
I'm excited to be able to keep you updated with all the great resources I'm finding and adding to this site.
